In my first lesson, I told him that I learn better when I understand how things work, for example by following the MSPSL. He told me I should just follow his instructions and didn’t take the time to explain anything. He was very dismissive of my questions and kept telling me to calm down whenever I asked something.
In my second lesson, I was driving confidently but still getting used to things, as I’ve only had a few lessons. He kept raising his voice at me and telling me to calm down every few minutes. Despite multiple attempts to explain that I need a calm environment while I’m driving, it became too much and I had to pull over and ask him to stop shouting, as it was distracting and stressing me out.
He then became very aggressive and said I shouldn’t accuse him of shouting. He told me that he’s the instructor and I’m the student, so I should just do as I’m told and calm down. I explained that this approach doesn’t work for me, and that being told to calm down like that actually makes me more anxious, not less. He then became angry, told me to get out of the car, cancelled the remainder of my lesson, and said I should find another instructor.
This was a very upsetting experience. I believe his behaviour was unprofessional and unnecessarily aggressive. I have had driving lessons in the past and have never been treated this way, especially for simply asking not to be shouted at.
She explains things clearly and made sure I truly understood the rules of the road rather than just memorising them. Her teaching style is calm, encouraging, and very thorough, which made a huge difference in my learning.
Thanks to her guidance and support, I passed my driving test! I’m so grateful for everything she taught me and would highly recommend Arifa to anyone looking for a knowledgeable and encouraging driving instructor.
