Pass Plus Driving Course in London – DVSA Approved

Pass Plus driving is a DVSA-approved course built specifically to close that gap, along with four other areas your test never really covered. It’s a voluntary, six-hour training course for drivers who’ve already passed their test.

There’s no pass or fail involved, it’s simply practical experience in the situations your test didn’t have time for. At Connect Driving, our instructors are based in Surbiton, fully DVSA-approved, and they build each session around how you actually drive, not a fixed script.

What is Included in Our Pass Plus Driving Course In London

The Pass Plus scheme comes directly from the DVSA and is aimed at people who’ve recently passed their test. Six hours is the minimum the DVSA requires, and most of our students get through the full course in a single day. Some prefer to split it across two sessions, either way works, and we’ll fit around whichever suits you.

The Six Pass Plus Modules We Cover

The DVSA sets out six areas, and every student works through all of them. How long we spend on each one usually comes down to what you’re least confident about, some people breeze through town driving and struggle with motorways, others are the exact opposite. That’s fine, and it’s exactly what this course is for.

  1. Town and City Driving Reading what’s coming next, parked cars, pedestrians stepping out, junctions with no clear priority. This is about building the habit of scanning ahead rather than reacting late.
  2. Rural Road Driving Narrow lanes, blind bends, and knowing when to hold back rather than push through. Rural roads catch out a lot of newly qualified drivers simply because they look quieter than they are.
  3. Night Driving Dipped beams at the right moment, reading brake lights earlier, judging distance when everything looks different in the dark. Most of these habits only click after someone’s had a scare, we’d rather you learn them with an instructor next to you first.
  4. All-Weather Driving Rain, glare, and reduced grip all change how a car behaves. We work through the small adjustments, following distance, braking earlier, reading the road surface, that only really make sense once you’ve felt them.
  5. Dual Carriageway Driving Merging at speed, lane discipline, and keeping the right gap. It’s less about theory and more about doing it a few times with someone who won’t panic next to you.
  6. Motorway Driving This is usually the one people ask about first. We cover joining and leaving safely, lane positioning, and building the confidence to drive at motorway speed without it feeling overwhelming. If this is your main concern, our Motorway Driving Lessons go into more detail.

How Much Does Our Pass Plus Course Cost?

Our Pass Plus course starts from per hour prices to the full 6-hour course, and covers all six modules listed above. The exact price can depend on manual vs automatic / instructor / London zone etc. Get in touch and we’ll confirm the exact cost for your postcode before you book anything.

Can Pass Plus Lower Your Car Insurance?

Sometimes, yes, though it’s never guaranteed, and it depends entirely on your insurer. A number of insurance providers offer a discount if you’ve completed Pass Plus, and we’ve seen this go as high as 25–30% depending on the company, your age, and where you live. It isn’t universal, so it’s always worth a quick call to your insurer before you book, just to check whether they actually recognise the certificate.

Plenty of our students end up saying the discount wasn’t even the main benefit, it was simply not dreading the motorway anymore. That said, if the insurance saving is part of your reason for taking the course, it’s worth checking both your council and your insurer before you book, so you know exactly what you’re working with.

What Happens After Your Pass Plus Instruction Course – Getting Your Certificate

There’s no formal test at the end of Pass Plus, but your instructor does assess you throughout each of the six modules. To complete the course, you’ll need to reach the required standard in every one.

Once you’ve finished, your instructor fills in a training report form, which both you and your instructor sign. That form gets sent off to the DVSA, who then issues your official Pass Plus certificate. You’ll need this certificate if you’re applying for an insurance discount or council funding, so keep hold of it once it arrives.

If you don’t quite reach the standard in a particular module, that’s not a failure, it usually just means a bit more practice in that specific area before your instructor signs off. Pass Plus isn’t run under test-day pressure, so there’s no penalty for needing an extra session here or there.

Meet Our DVSA-Approved Pass Plus Instructors London

Every instructor running Pass Plus with us holds a full ADI licence, and our cars are kept in good condition, one less thing to think about on the day. Our instructors have been teaching in and around Surbiton for many years, and between them have seen pretty much every version of a nervous new driver there is.

We try to pair you with an instructor who suits how you learn, not just whoever happens to be free next. If you’d rather have a female instructor, just mention it when you book.

Why Choose Us for Pass Plus in Surbiton, London

We teach on the roads around Surbiton, so it’s the same roundabouts and junctions you’ll actually be using afterwards, not a test route you will never drive again. Instructors build the module order around your weak points rather than following the same fixed sequence with every student.

There’s no exam at the end, so there’s no added pressure. You get honest feedback after each session, what worked, what to tighten up, and by the last module, most people notice they’re just driving better without really thinking about why.

Frequently Asked Questions

Anyone with a full UK driving licence, regardless of age or how long ago they passed.

No formal exam. Your instructor checks you’re comfortable across all six modules and completes a training report form, which is then sent to the DVSA to issue your certificate.

Six hours minimum, by DVSA rules. Most people complete it in a single day; some prefer to split it across two visits.

Not guaranteed, it comes down to your individual insurer. Worth checking with them directly before you book, especially if the discount is a big part of your decision.

Yes, and it’s actually a good time to do it, while the habits you built during learning are still fresh.

The certificate itself doesn’t expire, but its value for an insurance discount depends on the insurer, some only apply it in your first year of cover. The skills you build, though, stay with you regardless.

No. Pass Plus is designed for newly qualified drivers to build experience in situations they may not have covered yet, like motorways or night driving. Advanced driving courses (run by separate organisations) go further and aim at a higher standard of vehicle control and defensive driving.

You won’t be marked as having failed anything. Your instructor will usually recommend a bit more practice in that specific area before signing off, so you may need an extra hour or two before your certificate is issued.

Yes. We run Pass Plus in both manual and automatic vehicles, just let us know your preference when you book.
